Whether your kid has never held a bow or already loves to compete, there's a place for them on our line. Beginners start with an eight-week intro class, JOAD is the weekly program for everyone who wants to keep shooting, and our team travels and competes in JOAD and S3DA events. Certified coaches, a climate-controlled indoor range, and a friendly line that runs all year.
Nearly every archer at the club starts in an intro class. From there, JOAD is the year-round program for every young archer, and S3DA is the team that travels and competes.
One hour a week for eight weeks, on the indoor range, built on USA Archery's Explore Archery program. Club bows and arrows are provided — nothing to buy before the first night.
About the class →Junior Olympic Archery Development is USA Archery's youth program. Archers shoot weekly and climb a national ladder of achievement pins at their own pace, in whatever bow style they shoot.
About JOAD →Scholastic 3-D Archery. Our competitive team practices weekly and travels to indoor, outdoor and 3D tournaments together — local, regional, state and national.
About the team →An eight-week beginner class for young people aged 8 to 17. One hour a week on the club's climate-controlled indoor range, so a session runs start to finish whatever the weather is doing.
It's a class for first-time archers, built on USA Archery's Explore Archery program: one skill per week, taught in order, each building on the last. New archers shoot on the very first night. By week seven an archer is shooting a scored round and knows how to keep score. Along the way they earn five official achievement awards — Safety, Equipment, Shooting Form, Shot Execution and Scoring.
Sessions run a few times a year and fill quickly. New sessions are announced to the mailing list first, and registration runs through SignUpGenius.

USA Archery's youth program, from complete beginner all the way to the national team pipeline. Open to archers from age 8 through 20, with no age-based classes to keep up with — every archer moves through at their own pace.
The achievement pin program is the backbone of JOAD. USA Archery sets a ladder of scores; each time an archer shoots the score for the next level, they earn that star pin. It isn't a competition against the other archers on the line — it's a competition against the number, so every archer can have a good night. We run pin shoots indoors and outdoors, with outdoor distances out to 50 meters, and beyond the star pins there are 6-Gold pins and the Olympian award levels.
Archers compete and earn pins in the style they actually shoot, and they can change their mind later.
Scholastic 3-D Archery is a nationwide youth organization whose mission is to foster, educate and guide young people in 3D, indoor target and outdoor target archery, along with safe, ethical bowhunting practices.
What that means in practice is that S3DA gives our archers somewhere to go. It sanctions competitions at local, regional, state and national level throughout the year, so there is always a next event to train toward — and for older archers, a path to college programs and scholarships. We practice every week, all year, following the season: indoor target through the winter, outdoor target and 3D once the weather turns. And we compete as a team — traveling together, shooting together, backing each other up on the line.
Archery at Lower Providence has its own building, so the program runs year round rather than stopping when the weather turns.

Pin shoots, tournaments and class registration dates are emailed to the list as they're scheduled.
Intro class sessions fill quickly and the list hears first. We also send practice schedule changes, pin shoot dates and event news. A few emails a month at most.
